My Interview with Vanessa Kate from The Wellness Hub
I had the privilege of speaking with Vanessa Kate, Owner of The Wellness Hub for an interview covering the topic "Empower Me".
I am excited to share the article with you below, please comment if you enjoy xx
And just like that, you Empower Me 1:1 Interviews are back! This week we sit with the beautiful Rebecca, Founder of Sydney Born candle and tea brand Selfish & Co, who talks us through her start-up journey, the ten year visionary, happiness and special rituals.
I crossed paths with Rebecca digitally through Instagram and I absolutely adored her branding and passion. It’s really important to me that I support small businesses as best as I can, and isn’t it just ironic that my obsession is beautifully scented candles.
Could you introduce yourself and the work you do?
I’m Rebecca, the creator and founder of 𝐒𝐄𝐋𝐅𝐈𝐒𝐇&𝐂𝐨 𝐒𝐘𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐘. I’ve lived in Hawkesbury ( Sydney) my whole life, and met my husband when I was 19. I’m Italian so cooking is life, I’m also a fur mum of an overly cheeky German Shepard named Riggs as well as a lover of fitness and all things health related.
How did this all start for you?
Simply a bad day, [I came] home kicked off my shoes, put the kettle on (really enjoy a hot tea – something soothing about the process), and lit a candle and he rest is history.
What inspires you to do what you do?
The realisation that I’m not alone in the feelings of wanting a more fulfilling life. Making ourselves number one is just as important as making sure our family is well taken care of.
How does your current life look compared to what you envisioned for yourself ten years ago?
Entirely different. If you ask anyone that knows me they’d say I’m not the sort of person to sit still or at least be in anyone place for lengths of time. Sure I don’t stop, however I’m not traveling around the world like I originally envisioned.
It’s funny, at the age of 33 [I am] finally creating the path I want, something that gives me a spark, and hopefully will assist many gorgeous souls along the way.
Can you share any special rituals you do as part of your morning and night routines?
Currently practicing a night routine to quieten my mind. I’m a thinker so as soon as my head hits the pillow it’s this roller coaster of thoughts. Constantly thinking what if I do this, or how will this impact/benefit my client. I am also about to start a 4-week relax course with Bree from
Fit & fierce Wellness Centre, she’s such a beautiful soul, I think I’ll get a lot out of it so can’t wait.
When you need some motivation to help get through the day, what do you do or reflect on?
Every step is taking you to your desired goal. Just have faith.
What does happiness mean for you?
A spring morning on our balcony coffee in hand listening to the birds and watching King Parrots land on the railing – to me this is pure bliss.
How do you keep healthy and balanced?
I feel like this is one of the hardest questions someone could ask me. I find this can be a struggle as I love eating well and a balanced diet however, with having an ED you need to be careful as things can bring it on.
It’s also strange as I’m am Italian and with that comes a large passion for quality fresh food. In general though, I try to train three days a week ( I would like to make it five however sometimes it’s just not possible). In the mornings I like to either have a smoothie, or, I’m addicted to Muesli from SK Second Breakfast – a local business I adore.
Three things you love to do when you’re not working?
BREAKFAST – I have a love affair with mornings in general having breakfast out then walking through a market… couldn’t ask for more. I can be a bit of an old lady, I much prefer being out in the sun sipping on tea then partying it up at a club. My favorite tea would be our Handsomely Grey – Early Grey with a light floral twist.
When it comes to holidays, we always head to the water, something calming about the ocean, sand in your toes, sounds of the waves -it grounds me.
