It’s 2:57am at club Stella with DJ "feed me" listening to the rain and breastfeeding our daughter (still can't believe she's here). Normally try to read a book (on my phone), this morning though, I was in a world of thought about the importance of prioritising “You”. We express the importance of self care, but how do we prioritise a forgotten art?!
Really quick before dive in! I just launched the Self Care Society Facebook group a safe space for women to connect, encourage & help navigate the world and it's challenges by making sure you lean how to take time for yourself. Click here to come join us!
Okay - back to how to prioritising YOU! It’s all well and good for
me to say “self care isn’t selfish”, if you don't know where to start how can you practice it. And yes, your going to guilt trip yourself into thinking “I should be doing", trust me you'll feel better for it.
1. Spend time prepping.
True if your strapped for time being told to prep your "you time" makes no sense, but bare with me...
If you don’t take a moment to plan then how do you know what is essential and what’s not.
Now a days I find writing a list of important “to do’s” allows me to focus, feel a sense of achievement and weeds out any distractions. Thus making room for you.
It’s surprising what you can accomplish when your goal is clear.
2. Take back your energy.
When I start noticing my energy levels are lagging and brain fog is setting in I have a "bag" of tools I like to use. I'll step away from the computer, go for a walk outside, make a strong cup of coffee, or have a quiet moment on the balcony. Whatever I can do then to replenish my levels.
It's incredibility important to have a list of what boosts your energy ready and waiting for when needed.
What will be on yours?
3. Give yourself grace.
Like me, you're probably harder on yourself than anything else... Let's be real that extra pressure doesn't really help does it?
On days your feeling low, give yourself permission to make mistakes, praise and acknowledge what you've achieved. Most important watch how you speak to yourself, your inner voice has a large impact on your mood.
You've got this and when you think you don't, reach out we've got you.
4. Listen to your body
First time I truly tuned into my body was the beginning of 2021 when we decided to start IVF again. Your body is extremely intelligent, than we give it credit for.
At the time I was working out 4-5 days a week running SELFISH&Co, plus working full time. My body was stressed, tired and wasn't sleeping well. I seeked the help of Alison Mitchell a local naturopath here in the Hawkesbury. Alison formulated an evening tea which I continued to use throughout my pregnancy. I whole heartily believe resting my tired body, and only working necessary hours (reducing stress), our little girl wouldn't be here today.
"Best investment you'll ever make is in YOU".
